Dear Key Magazine,
Dropping out of school seems to be a regular thing in my state. The Greenville News recently reported that South Carolin has just moved up since 2007 up the last position in graduating high school students. Only New Mexico, Nevada, and Louisiana are worst. Out state has been near on the bottom when it comes to having students drop out of high school since I dropped out myself over 30 years ago. What schools have finally realized is instead of just kicking the "problem children" out of school, the school must assist that child in getting him some help. It has taken my state (SC) a very long time to realize this. Maybe John Stossill of 20/20 Television Magazine fame embarrassed us enough to get us to put more resourses in helping out youth. In many circle where I "hang out" I'm known as The Maniac Man. That is I am a "maniac" about learning. I have been every since I worked to right-sized my life after becoming a dropout. Now I am a youth activist/ writer/speaker. We must galvanize our efforts in America to help our youth. Not doing so have brought on grave enough concerns like increased juvenile delinquency and homicide and suicide among youth.
