About Classical / Ancient Near Eastern Languages Colleges:
Anyone who wishes to do primary research in the literature or archaeology of the Near East should gain some proficiency in Latin, classical Greek, Akkadian, Egyptian, or Hebrew languages. A degree in this field will introduce the student to original texts in the chosen language, explore techniques of translation, and survey the culture in which that language was spoken. The program naturally leads a graduate into a career of research, writing, and/or teaching about the ancient Near East.
