About Geotechnical Engineering Colleges:
The San Francisco earthquake of 1989 dramatically illustrated the challenges facing geotechnical engineers: Violent earth motion liquefied soil beneath the freeways, streets, and high-rise buildings, causing many of these structures to collapse. Geotechnical engineers study the properties of soil and use this knowledge to design major construction projects. They analyze the stability of dams, the safe construction of retaining walls and drainage systems, and the design of landfills and other hazardous waste areas.
