The University of Hawaii system includes three universities and seven community colleges. The campuses of the universities are located in Hilo, on the Big Island; Manoa, near Honolulu; and in West Oahu near Pearl City. Hawaii Pacific University is the state's largest private institution of higher learning. Established in 1965 and located in Honolulu, students can receive Bachelor of Arts degrees in 40 different majors and BS degrees in subjects that are ideal for Hawaii-based students, like oceanography and marine biology.
