Michigan is certainly full of large universities but boasts many fine small colleges as well. The Presbyterian-founded Alma College is continuously touted by college reviewers for its commitment to fostering social responsibility and public service and is often listed among the top colleges for science. The school's pretty 100-acre campus is located in the middle of the Lower Peninsula, and the college holds fast to its Scottish roots, which is evident in its kilted marching band, official school tartan and annual the Scottish Games festival.
