Missouri Colleges and UniversitiesThe Missouri College Scene - An Exclusive U.S. College Search Report
Missouri has a bit of everything for the prospective college student. Its large cities, like St. Louis in the east and Kansas City in the west, are typical urban areas, full of arts and culture, fine restaurants and nightspots, yet with a touch of Midwestern hospitality. The Lake of the Ozarks region in the center of the state is breathtakingly beautiful, and the expansive Mark Twain National Forest covers much of the southeastern portion of the state and is a delight to explore.
The University of Missouri system is quite excellent, and the campuses in Columbia and Rolla are often lauded for their programs. Nicknamed "Mizzou," this was the first institution of higher learning in the Louisiana Purchase region, and today, it offers 267 degree programs to the nearly 30,000 students that attend the university. The University of Missouri - Columbia is a member of the Big 12 Conference.
If you think you can't attend college due to the cost, consider the beautiful College of the Ozarks and their innovative work-study program. Located in one of the state's most lovely regions, this college is nicknamed "Hard Work U" because each student is expected to devote 15 hours per week to a campus job. The college notes that this job, when combined with scholarships and grants, should cover the cost of an education here. Additional work is available for those with considerable need who wish to attend this top-ranked liberal arts college.
