Throughout the past few decades, Wisconsin has become a favorite vacation destination for many. A veritable outdoor wonderland, Wisconsin is surrounded by Lakes Michigan and Superior, boasts the lovely and fun Wisconsin Dells region, and even has enough large cities, like Milwaukee, Green Bay, and Madison, to keep urban dwellers happy. Many areas of the state are also in close proximity to Chicago and all it has to offer.
Though Wisconsin has a lot more lakes than colleges, a few of its institutions of higher learning consistently make the top 50 lists of most college review publications.
The University of Wisconsin, with its flagship campus in the capital city of Madison, is one of those. With a beautiful campus bordered by two lakes, UW Madison provides not only a first-class education but also a wonderful place in which to live during your college years. This is an immense university, with about 41,000 students attending classes on its main campus. Nearly one-third of its students come from out-of-state to enjoy the almost 9,000 course offerings here. Majors are many and diverse, including about 135 for undergrads, 150 for grad students, and 110 doctoral programs. The campus boasts 1.6 million square feet of lab space for research. There's also an arboretum and a 6,000 acre experimental farm.
The state of Wisconsin also boasts a huge system of technical colleges, 16 in all, where students can earn two-year degrees in over 300 areas of study.
